How To: Military Care Package (Birthday Themed)

You guys! Where has the time gone?! Another deployment… already?! A lot has changed since my last blog post: new home, new deployment, new human being growing inside of me. Casual things in the military wife life.

I am so excited and blessed to finally pour my heart into Anchors and Planes as a new mummy-to-be, but first things first, it’s my lovely airman’s birthday! As all deployments go, there are missed holidays and seasons, but that shouldn’t keep us from a celebratory project.

This post will hands down be the least expensive, creative, and most boring care package made yet… the first trimester did not treat me well. However, this is perfect if you’re on a budget or have fun sending things “just because you love them.”

Theme:Birthday
Same as a few of my other boxes, I used scrapbook paper to cover the wings of the box completely ($2), sticker letterss to say, “Happy Birthday” ($5), and red, white and blue ribbon for… no reason, ribbon is awesome ($3).🙂
Inside are large things my husband asked for, with a smaller items being surprise gifts.
  • Sweatpants
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • GQ magazine
  • Star Wars puzzle
  • Multiple sauces and seasoning
  • Snacks and candy
  • Energy drinks: 5 HR energy shots

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

I hope this inspires you to spoil those you love, and spoil them well. We never know when our last day will be, so don’t hold love back from anyone ❤ Happy birthday to my amazing husband, and may our troops, you, and your loved ones be blessed in the name of Jesus!

Home Tour || #MCCLUNGCASA

It has been so highly requested to share a bit of our home with the world. This was made with our west coast family in mind! We have had a handful of guests come and visit with us at this house, but we will be moving soon. I find that every space we have has it’s own personality; a warmth of it’s own that can not be covered with our chaos, but can be used collaboratively. I hope you enjoy this taste of our McClung Casa, and we will see ya soon at the next one! xoxo – angel

Grace In Guatemala

Since being stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, my husband and I have been members of Bay Life Church in Brandon, Florida. For the past year and a half, you may have caught us on a Sunday volunteering at the Missions Café. It is a joy to share with you that I have been presented with the opportunity to travel to Guatemala on an 8-day mission trip in January 2017 with Bay Life!

The word “Mission” is defined in Webster’s dictionary as “an important assignment carried out”. God calls all of us to the upmost important assignment, and that is to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Myself, and eight others, will be working together to hold daily outreaches in Guatemala City. Through these outreaches we will get an opportunity to build relationships with the people of Guatemala, and it will also be our prayer to lead them to the cross.

Our team will be working diligently to make a “KINGDOM difference” while in Guatemala. We aren’t going on vacation. We aren’t going to simply bring aid. We aren’t going just to bring the fun to the kids. We are going to GROW the Kingdom. We are going to see lives changed, and people set free!

My trip in January obviously comes with some very high financial responsibilities. The estimated cost of our trip will be $1,600 per person. I ask of you to pray and seek God on how he wants you to sow into this trip, if that be by prayer, or if that be financially. I encourage you to do whatever he is guiding you to do.  I know $1,600 is a great number, but our God is so much greater!

Ways you can help:

1.       Prayer Partnership

Please keep the nation of Guatemala and our team in your prayers this year. Below are topics to pray for:

·         strength (physically, mentally, and spiritually)
·         team unity
·         to stay anchored in faith
·         safety during these travels
·         financial needs be met
2.       Donation Partnership

Please consider supporting my mission with this GoFundMe account. Below are the many ways you can donate:

·         Check (TAX DEDUCTIBLE) – Make check payable to “Bay Life Church” with “Angel McClung – Guatemala” on the memo line. Please mail to Bay Life Church Attn. Missions Office 1017 Kingsway Rd. Brandon, FL 33510
·         Online (TAX DECUCTIBLE) –  Donations can be made at www.baylife.org/giveglobal.Instructions are on main page and make sure to designate that the funds are for Angel McClung in Guatemala.
·         Online GoFundMe (NOT TAX DEDUCTIBLE) – Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/graceinguatemala! It’s safe, fast, free, and easy. Please be advised that giving through GoFundMe is not a deduction.
·         Book a Photoshoot (NOT TAX DEDUCTIBLE) – 100% of profits from now until January 2017 will be donated to the Guatemala team. To book your session, visit facebook.com/angeladrianaphotography or contact angel.mcclung@yahoo.com

Any funds received over and above what is needed for this specific journey will go toward the benefit of our overall team; in in the event that I am not able to participate, your donation will still be used to send our team to Guatemala for the Gospel to be shared!

Thank you for your love and support over the past years. It has been a growing experience to relocated from California to Hawaii, then follow the call of God into Argentina and Haiti; all in the midst of an engagement and wedding to my amazingly wonderful husband. Your love and support has been proof of God’s grace and calling. These mission trips are a product of faith and generosity… your faith and generosity!

It’s not about the amount of time they have been gone,
the things that went wrong while they were gone,

What matters is they’re finally home.

January Favorites: Beauty, Fashion, Health, & More!

Beauty: Make-Up Palettes Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Make-up palettes are bomb for so many reasons! The value is always higher than the cost, it makes traveling with makeup easy and more sanitary, and they’re available in drug store brands! My favorites include Kat Von D’s contour set, Becca’s Highlight set (currently unavailable), LORAC shadows, and Urban Decay shadows. Some cheaper online/ drug store alternatives are NYX, BH Cosmetics, and Morphe.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette (Face)Naked 2 Basics (Eyes),

Fashion: Altar’d State (Store)Alt

I JUST discovered this store this week, and it was absolutely precious. The store is extremely similar to Francesca’s Boutique, but Christian based and BIGGER! As you walk through the store, you will hear popular worship songs, see uplifting verses EVERYWHERE, and be asked for any prayer request. Their prices are pretty high for the quality, BUT they donate to charities (some items explain what you are supporting/ raising awareness for). If that doesn’t float your budget, make sure to check out their sale room… I got a $100 jacket for $13. Things I picked up: boot cuffs, rings, Dog wall art, jacket, and a LBD.

TV show: Once Upon A Time

If you have Netflix, love Disney, and are bored… do it. Four seasons, 24 episodes, and many laughs. “Hook” is hands down my favorite character!

DIY idea: Chalkboardchalk

Tech: Instant Cameras

For Christmas, I got myself and both of my sisters Fuji Film Instant cameras.. They are absolutely precious, and your memories will make great reminders left around the house 🙂

To Do: Invest In Your Friendships frans

I was very blessed to host three of my best friends over one weekend in January… IT WAS AMAZING! What’s so special about our friendship and time together is that we met on a rock in the middle of the ocean (Kona, Hawaii) and since then, have moved all over the United States. It had been a year and four days since I had seen them in person! It was an amazing feeling to invest my time into making them comfortable (since they were the ones to live out of their carry-on’s for a few days). This trip came together in TWO WEEKS. Not many people are comfortable with booking a flight just to “hang out,” but I ask of you, what can you do to BETTER your friendships? Of course we would be friends even if we never saw each other again in person, but they (we) go out of our way to lay down our expectations of modern day friendships and CHOOSE to spend time together.

Instagram Account: @BARISTA_LIFE

Even though it’s mostly Starbucks employees, all barista problems are alike! I love to scroll through my IG feed and laugh hysterically at their posts.

YouTuber: Miranda Sings (Colleen Evans).

Yeah, she’s hot and nice and my friends now.
*Note: I usually like to include a book, but I’ve been so consumed with moving, hosting friends, binge watching Netflix, etc. that I did not pick up a single book (besides my Bible for daily devotionals.) I will try and get some goodies to share with you guys next time!

How To: Military Care Package (Christmas Themed)

Okay. I have no idea what I’m most happy about:

  1. I’m off work the next two days.
  2. Elf is playing on the TV right now.
  3. I’m on my second beer.
  4. I applied for a house this week.
  5. My Christmas packages arrived safely to the middle east!

I am so excited to FINALLY be sharing the mother of all care package ideas, CHRISTMAS! *Praise break* In this post, I’ll show you not one, not two, but THREE packages I put together for my husband, troops, and my family! If you have a loved one deployed, in school, or just far away, I hope this helps inspire you to send love via care packages!

boxes

Theme: Christmas // Holiday Gifts
My husband’s is the only one with decorated “flaps” (?) Whatever they’re called. The wings on boxes that unveil awesome stuff. I used scrapbook paper to cover them completely, metallic stickers to say, “Dear Deployment, LET HIM GOOOO!” *Frozen dance break*, Olaf and snowflake stickers, along with a picture of us 🙂
Inside the box is a burlap bag and many gifts! Our puppy helped me out a little… gifts
I made sure to include a gift for new years and our anniversary in January! The gifts were dated up to 12 days, making them the “12 Days of Christmas.” So everyday he has a gift to look forward to, with the last one being (hopefully) his favorite! (Total weight: 50 LBS)  Feel free to ask in the comment section for gift ideas, but for now, I’ll move onto what was in the package for our troops!
cookies
  • Instant soups
  • Mac n cheese
  • Crackers
  • Oatmeal (instant)
  • Peanut Butter
  • Beef Jerky
  • Almonds & Walnuts
  • Breakfast Teas & Stress Relief Teas
  • Hot Coco
  • Candy Canes
  • & 150 + Homemade cookies (Chocolate chip, sugar, mint chocolate chip, pumpkin spice, and snicker doodle)

Total weight: 40 lbs.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this package, and to my beautiful mom, sister, and niece (along with her girl scout troop) for sending their own packages with just as much, if not more to our troops!

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

As for my family’s package, I sent two packages to California. One to “mom’s side” and one to “dad’s side.” Instead of ordering online, or sending gift cards, I wanted to personally wrap each gift with a photo that comes to mind when I think of them.

Grandma Toni at Kristi’s Wedding 2015

Okay, and maybe all of my gifts are from Nordstrom… Sorry hunny!

I hope this inspires you to spoil those you love, and spoil them well. We never know when our last day will be, so don’t hold love back from anyone ❤ Happy Holiday and may our troops, you, and your loved ones be blessed in the name of Jesus!
